How to Prepare Your Computer Case to Install Computer Components

Before you can install components in a computer case, you must prepare the case. This obviously requires opening the case up so you can access its interior compartment.

There are two types of entry into today's computer cases; screw access (requiring a Phillips screwdriver) or clip access. If you have a case that only uses clips, you probably won't need a screwdriver, as the clips are designed for easy access.

The first thing you need to do is lift the case and place it to a level so that you can work easily. This way you have easy access to the sides and back of the case at all times.

Opening the Case

If you have the screw access type of case, this is what you will need to do:

1. If you take a quick look at it, you will notice several screws. Typically, there will be one screw per corner. Sometimes, you may have a case that just has one screw somewhere near the center of the back panel. Regardless, carefully remove all of the screws by using the Philips screwdriver.

2. Next, you need to remove the casing. This can be rather difficult, depending on the type of case that your computer has.






Typically, you will want to push on the side that comes off, making sure to push in the direction that will allow the side to slide off of the case. If this does not work, then you may have a case that requires you to remove the top first. Just grab the top and pull it off. Then, BOTH sides should easily come off.

If you have the clip access case, slide the clips to the open position, and slide the casing off (usually sliding the casing toward the back of the computer).

Now you are ready to install the power supply and auxiliary case fan.
