Your Graphics Card Might Be Outdated

It may be time for a graphics card upgrade.

In recent years, technology has taken off so dramatically that even though you bought your computer a couple of years ago, it is already outdated. Many people are not sure whether they should upgrade their current computer or just get a new one. If you decide that you want to upgrade your computer instead of buying one here are some tips on choosing a video card for your upgrade.

For someone who does not know a lot about the ins and outs of a computer, buying a new graphics card (which is also known as a video card) can prove to be a difficult task. There are numerous aspects to consider when choosing a new video card. When upgrading you cannot just go out and buy the first one you see. You need to consider your options and which one would be best for your computer needs.

The major thing you need to think about is what type of chip you would like to have. The top companies that make chips are ATI and Nvidia. Therefore, just about every video card you will find will have a chip made by one of these two companies. The chip in the card is very important. If you have two different cards that have the same chip in them, their performance levels will be quite similar.

The next thing you have to think about is the amount of memory in the card. The memory is also really important to consider. On one hand if you have a card that has poor RAM, it will process things slowly and less speed for graphics. On the other hand if you have a card with excellent RAM it will have good speed and be able to process things at a quicker rate.

One of the most popular capabilities people look for in upgrading is the TV-out feature. The TV-out feature enables you to hook your computer up to your television set. Another popular feature is dual head support. This enables you to use 2 monitors with your computer instead of one.

The last thing to consider is the amount of money you are willing to spend on your new graphics card. The prices on graphic cards range for under a hundred dollars to over $1000. You can find a sub-par card priced around $70, but if you are looking for something that has a little more bang for your buck you are looking at spending around $200 on a graphics card. If you want a top of the line video card for your computer you are looking at spending more than pocket change.

Now that I have given you some heads up on certain features for your new graphics card, I feel comfortable enough to tell you that you are ready to go shopping and be able to stay within your budget. Do not get talked in to buying a top dollar card if you really do not need it. Sure top of the line is top of the line but if you are not going to use it to it’s fullest then why spend the money?
