Wireless Laptop Computers:
You Need This

By Webmaster Guy Ames

Often using wireless laptop computers is as easy as turning on the computer and then searching for available wireless networks. Here's the good news: most of the new laptop computers being built come with wireless capability built right in to them! This makes it much easier to use a wireless internet connection or wireless server—now you don’t have to purchase the wireless adapter cards or worry about a bunch of coding.

If you are using your own Wi-Fi connection at home, the best thing to do is to set the network up as a secure network. This will keep people from using your wireless connection without your permission (the more computers you have using a single wireless signal, the weaker that signal becomes for each computer).

Often this is as easy as assigning your home network a password. From there you program the password into your wireless set up on your computer and you are good to go! You can even set up your computer to connect to your home network automatically, which is good for home networks that use wireless print servers or wireless internet. It is as easy as following the prompts on your computer screen.

If you're trying to use your laptop computer in areas that are Wi-Fi hotspots, this gets a little bit trickier. These are also security enabled networks, and sometimes you have to pay to get a password or subscribe to the hot-spots wireless service. Often, when you turn on your internet in a hotspot location it automatically boots up to the page offering you subscription service (if the network is not free to use - and many are free nowadays).

LINKSYS WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router The LINKSYS WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router is one product that will help turn your home into a wireless wonderland. Simply plug this wireless router in and hook it up to your internet modem and you can have wireless internet through your entire house. This can also help wireless computers network with each other and with any printers that might be plugged in.

LINKSYS WUSB100 USB 2.0 Wireless Network USB Adapter If you need a wireless adaptor for your computer, one of the best you can buy is the LINKSYS WUSB100 USB 2.0 Wireless Network USB Adapter. This is one of the easiest wireless adaptors to use. Simply plug it in to your laptop’s USB port and you have powered your laptop into a wireless laptop computer! There are many brands available that do this, but Linksys is the best.

Having a wireless laptop computer is very useful. It frees you up to work wherever you want, whenever you want, without having to sit down at a big computer desk or sending files to the computer that is hooked up to the printer. Thanks to hot spots and adaptors, you can access the internet with wireless laptop computers in any place that has an internet connection.
