Basic Wireless Networking Tutorial
Welcome to my short wireless networkingSetting up a wireless home network is very easy. Windows is very network friendly and provides you with simple wizards to click through.
Each manufacturer is slightly different to set up but if you buy from a reputable brand like D-Link they provide you with detailed instructions on how to get your wireless network up and running.
The most important part is understanding how all the components in a network fit together.
Take a look at the diagram below.
As you can see a wireless network that shares a broadband Internet connection is not complicated.
The wireless router takes the data from the modem and splits it between the computers connect to it. The computers connected can also access files on each others had drive provided you have enabled file sharing on each computer.
If you are using a cable modem then your cable connection would replace the phone line.

I recommend you go for a good quality brand route and accessories from D-Link. D-Link has the cheapest and fastest wireless networking equipment. It is easy to set up and gives you a good range.
Currently they have the fastest wireless routers at the lowest prices.
D-Link 54Mbps Wireless Router
The 54 Mbps is very fast and will give you about half the speed of a 100Mbps
regular wired network connection. US Robotics, Linksys and D-Links are
all good brands with comparable products and any will do depending on
what good deals there are at the time.
You will also need wireless network card in each of your computers. You
need small PC cards for laptops. I recommend getting a dual band card
even though you only plan on using the B band 2.4 Ghz router. Dual band
PC cards have much better range than single band B cards. For desktop computers you should get a high speed 54Mdps wireless PCI network card when you are ready to do your wireless networking
